My approach

I define my photography style as unplanned. I notice something interesting and shoot immediately. Over time, I developed the observation skills to see the light and interesting details wherever I was. Having a camera with me all the time is critical for this approach.

Workflow

My workflow has evolved a lot since I started my photography journey. As I developed my skills and artistic approach, so did my way of editing my photos. But I can summarize as follows:

  • RAW image edit. Basic colour and exposure correction.
  • Main edit. Here is where I do the bulk of my edits. Crop, clean up, colour, noise, lens correction, and frame
  • Export. I export from the App and sometimes run the JPG through size reduction software.

I have used Adobe Photoshop and DxO Photolab for many years. The former is very flexible, and image correction tools are easy to use. The latter has the best lens correction and noise reduction tools. I also use DxO Photolab to browse through the image files because of its intuitive interface and quick preview features.

I recently dropped Adobe after a price hike and purchased Affinity software. Their Photo app “Photos” is similar to Photoshop and supports some of the plugins I use (Nik’s Collection, for example).

At the end of the day, the important thing is that the tools should work for you and not hinder your workflow.
